Maven provides free virtual support for pregnancy, postpartum, and returning to work after parental leave. Use it for 24/7 guidance from doctors, specialists, and coaches, along with access to trustworthy content tailored to your experience.

Quit For Life® smoking cessation

The program includes counseling by phone, group therapy sessions, or educational sessions with a doctor, along with FDA-approved drugs to treat tobacco dependence for those age 18 or older.

Members can order prescription drugs through Optum Rx by mail or over-the-counter drugs through UnitedHealthcare.

Cancer Centers of Excellence

As a member of the Consumer Driven Option, you have access to designated Cancer Centers of Excellence around the country. With pre-approval, you pay 10% of the Plan allowance for in-network care.

The Health Plan will only pay the higher level of benefits if UnitedHealthcare provides the proper notification to the designated facility/provider performing the services.

Hearing tests & hearing aids

Consumer Driven Option and High Option plans cover diagnostic hearing tests every two years and hearing aids every three years. For hearing tests, members pay 15% of the Plan allowance, while hearing aids are covered up to $1,500.

UnitedHealthcare Hearing

In addition, you can access more than 2,000 name-brand models and styles of hearing aids at significant savings through UnitedHealthcare Hearing.

Choose virtual care with hearing aid home delivery or in-person care at more than 7,000 hearing providers nationwide. Plus, get in-person or virtual support for every stage or your hearing health journey.

Maternity support program

Access the information and resources you need for everything from planning for a pregnancy to postpartum care.

Start by taking a short maternity support assessment. Based on your responses, a maternity nurse may reach out to you. You’ll also have 24/7 access to content and online video courses.

Transition of care rules for members who are pregnant

If you are pregnant and lose access to your specialist based on the circumstances listed below, you can continue to see your specialist and your PPO benefits will continue until the end of your postpartum care, even if it is beyond the 90 days:
You may be able to continue seeing your specialist and receiving any PPO benefits for up to 90 days after you receive notice of the change.

Infertility services

Infertility is a struggle. When you want to start or expand your family but have been unable to conceive within a reasonable period of time, it can affect your emotional health.

For members who are ready to seek medical help on the journey to becoming a parent, the Consumer Driven Option and High Option plans cover a range of services to diagnosis and treat infertility, including fertility preservation procedures.

When to see a healthcare provider for infertility

People under the age of 35 who aren’t pregnant after one year of trying should consider seeing a healthcare provider. If you’re over 35 years of age, you may want to seek evaluation after six months of trying. Your chances of getting pregnant decrease with age.

Gender-affirming care

APWU Health Plan recognizes that transgender, non-binary, and other gender diverse members require healthcare delivered by providers experienced in gender affirming health. Gender-affirming services include:
Gender-affirming surgery benefits are only available for the diagnosis of gender dysphoria. You must call UnitedHealthcare before receiving gender-affirming surgery. Failure to do so will result in a minimum $500 penalty for an inpatient hospital stay.
